For me, it would just be the basic sword. Its mid level strength, speed, and acuracy. So it doesnt really have a huge draw back like the other weapons have. ehh...Then again... i guess its main weakness would be that its not the best at any type of fighting skill, its just pretty good all around with nothing unballenced or better than the other. Nice drawling by the way kev.

sword, woulda been better if it was a double-handed sword(this one character named lloyd in Tales Of symphonia has it), i think called that, not sure :/
Despends the rpg, depends the character. My favorite three is staves, 2 hand swords, and bows (depinding on the character), bows just because the range can be too advantagous for some characters.
The spear and the long sword are two of my other faverout weopons. But the reason why i like the normal sword better than the long is because you can hold somthing else in your other hand as well, like a shield for instance... or maybe even another sword, or whatever.

That is true, but ive always been a fan of classic sword fighting, a one handed sword is fine, but nothing else. I say you should be able to use the sword as a defencive item and need no more.
But.... but more is better is it not? I mean, once you buy a normal sword... then why would you not buy a sheild? The secondary wepon/or armour in your other hand does nothing but make things better fore you.

Choosing power over defence really depends on your character, and how many characters you have, if you have more then one character, more then likely one is going to be dedicated to usage of items and healing, that character should focus mainly on defence equipmentwise. Then youll probably have a more powerfull attack character, but since theres always someone ready to heal em when he gets weak, its good to have him with as much attack strength as posible to take out the enemy faster, so you can protect your healer for longer.
I choose a sword because I'm usually the type in RPGs to like using the tank type of character and be right in the action. I also like spears, claymores, scythes, and katanas. Although I'd use types of guns too, depending on my situtation. But you'd usually see the chacarcter I'm being up in the frontline.

Reading: nothing
Usually when guns are being introduced in RPGs, they sorta tend to make the bow and arows obsolete.

heh, I'm an archer type of guy. I love bows and guns. I love being far away from my opponents. I'm a very cautious/defensive player in RPGs and tend to lean toward defense on my characters. Even as far as real life goes, I'm not that brave a guy. I'd be in the back with a bow as a support fighter.
hmmm... I guess im alittle like that as well. But as for RPGs, i try and make my charactors more equal with each other in their own different ways of fighting, which makes the party less unballenced. Ihave one power house warrior, a magic based user, and middle strenth light weight wepon carrior, ect.
