Ever watched Bakugaiden and wondered "What the hell are they saying?" Or just been curious about the one Bomberman anime that never got any subs? Well never fear because I am here and I have the entire series!
Though no, seriously, I'm livetweeting these using a critical lens for animation while also describing funny bits of dialog and adding my own unfunny bits of dialog, so by all means join in! I'll be updating this every so often, and yes I do intend to cover all Bomberman anime along with their staffs and funny little animation quirks --including Jetters after Bakugaiden V is done.
You should think of a way to preserve these recaps if anything happens to Twitter or your Twitter account. This is incredibly valuable information to have.
I read through one of these some months ago, but lost track of them as time went on. Occasionally I'll see a screen grab here or there that you've tweeted, but this is far more convenient. Thanks for posting! And thanks for putting these together!

Thank you for your responses! While eventually I think Sora and I will do something on tumblr in regard to this, you're right that it'd be good to keep them somewhere else...I'm open to ideas if anyone has any as to how to preserve them!
Where exactly are you keeping the episodes, and if you're able to understand the dialog, do you think you'll ever take a shot at subbing them or is that off the table?

I've got them all downloaded on my hard drive, along with V.
Subbing them is my ultimate plan but I admit that'll come down to time and subbing know-how. I'm actually really busy often, and I don't actually know *how* to sub things so even if I can start working on scripts, they're nothing without someone to put the subs on the screen, and not only that I'd want someone to edit them as while I'm confident in my Japanese, there are little things here and there I might miss without a second pair of eyes and ears. At least these tweet threads should drum up interest in the series --and the artists who strive to bring it to us, so at the very least if I can't sub them there's some English language info for Bakugaiden/V/Jetters out there from both a comprehension and artistic standpoint.

If you don't mind me asking, when and where did you download these Bakugaiden episodes?
Also if it's no longer available from that source, would you be able to re-upload them to a file host so that we could download them?
I did have an interest before in potentially subbing the series, so I had been looking for higher quality raws for quite some time. However I couldn't find better raws, or get in contact with anyone else that I knew who still had them.

They're from a youtube source hosted by ragey who bought the tapes and transferred them over. I can ask if he doesn't mind me sharing the link as it is private. The quality is a little better than what's on YT now, but only a little. I basically downloaded them from YT and then converted them to mp4's, which is what you'd have to do if he is okay with me giving the link.
Rufi and I discussed the prospecting of ripping them last year and he gave me the confidence that buying and shipping 40 VHS tapes from Japan was totally a good idea.
Regarding the video rips: VHS is already a lossy format, but I recorded these using the NTSC converter on a PAL VCR through a SCART cable, so it's as lossy as lossy gets. (i did import an NTSC VCR with better output just for these tapes... only for it to arrive busted. welp!) If anyone's better equipped to rip them in higher quality, get in touch!
I've probably told you enough on Twitter, but thanks for all your support, Rufi! I'm way behind on the recaps, but I've really enjoyed what I've read and these links are a great help.
I got lucky on Yahoo! Auctions, if you consider spending over £500 lucky...? Bakugaiden IV cost 28000 Yen, V was 15300 Yen, and postage and customs added another £300 on top of that.
Thanks for uploading and sharing them, it's much appreciated.
I went ahead and surrounded the links in your post with a members only bbcode, which should help ease any concerns you may have had about making it public. This will allow access to it for anyone that wants it, while preventing any bots from indexing the direct links. If you actually wanted it to be fully public instead, you can just remove the member tags.
Now that we have a decent quality source and the full compilation of episodes, we can realistically see about getting the series subbed. I have experience with subbing and can do the encoding, subtitle timing and a decent amount of the translation work. Though there is a lot to cover and I've been busy with other things, so I'll likely be working on it gradually over time.

Ah, I was thinking of translating scripts, but if you've got it handled then I guess I don't need to? I'm busy too, but I was gonna do that eventually. Good luck if you're gonna take on this yourself! I'll still be translating/live tweeting them from time to time, mostly because I can still translate credits and linking the staff to other anime they've done is quite fun to me.

Aw you flatter me! I totally meant to post this myself but I forgot today when I got busy at work. Hopefully it gets the attention it deserves! Though hey, don't make it sound as if I made you spend that money, lol. I know you're not, but I'm too old to be an accomplice.
Just wanted to tip my hat as well, per say. That's incredible!
Wow, sounds like you spent a small fortune on that. Looks great though! That'll certainly be a showpiece. I have a handful of U.S anime VHS releases that are out of print and never got re-released on dvd but nothing on this kind of scale or imported either.
I remember enjoying the Bomberman Jetters anime more then I thought I was gonna. If one or some combination of you guys are gonna go through with subbing the series I'd say I'd be among those that would watch it, at least eventually. heh.
Episode 39 and 40 added! Almost done with IV! Man to think this is the first quasi-complete and definitely first in English guide of the series is kind of exciting, isn't it?
