Okay well, I hate this, but I feel like there should be a thread for it on the board anyway, so here we go. Konami has announced an arcade game, seemingly a mix between Bomberman gameplay and base defense, called Bombergirl.
The gameplay part looks cute and interesting enough.
Once you get to the portraits and artwork, though...
Especially these gems right here:
Chances are this will remain in the arcades of Japan where it belongs. I guess they were inspired by Medabots recently going hentai, or something. Nintendo sure saved Konami from themselves by approaching them to make a proper Bomberman revival game on the Switch, huh?
Picture this: Bomberman has been dead for years, and the grand comeback is this thing.
The girls apparently have backstories too. Translatorilla and I are hoping to get to those soon.
I said this elsewhere, but if they ever made a functional replica of the bomb bag that White Bombergirl is wearing I would totally buy and use it.
I also said that I would probably buy a console version of this despite the metric fudgetonic of mixed feelings I have about this game.
My main Salt Bomb with this would be if Konami decides to focus on bomberwaifus over the traditional console releases (in other words, SBR and its potential sequels/followups/what-have-you).
Well this is a thing. It reminds me of Sexy Parodius, which I want to play at some point.
That said, I am passing on this. Animu girls are a big turn-off for me and we already have the probably much superior Super Bomberman R to look forward to.
We finally updated the character profile translations to include the new characters that've been released since, including Kuro who was literally just added today! I'm tentatively impressed with the little canon references that've been included so far.
Wow, I'm really surprised to see such obscure Bomberman references... The Angel? Lewysia?! A small part of me wonders what compelled them to make those choices but the rest of me is just impressed.
(By the way... is there any reason why BDR translated Aqua's "Supporter" as "Minvo"? It does kind of look like a Minvo though.)
Also, do you two have any idea how players maintain the custom parts they collect, since it's an arcade game? Yeah, I'm... really out of the loop on modern arcades. And I'm sure they're more advanced in Japan, where they're still a big deal.

Whoops, looks like that's my fault as an editor for not catching that properly. I didn't look at the text close enough and assumed that there was a reason he went for the specific Bomberman reference. (I was very tired and so was he.) I'll go change it.
EDIT: The Lewisia/Rewishia reference might even extend to the curlicues in her hair, since Rewishia has something similar. And also they're both blue-themed.

We're out of the loop too, unfortch. I can try having BDR ask around on his Twitter or something. It's a good question...Bombergirl does seem a little involved for being "just" an arcade game, but I'm out of my depth when it comes to arcade culture.
BDR says that the news releases have been very vague on the topic so far, but there's some indication that it may be connected to this phone app, also by Konami.

Oh wow, you're right! I hadn't even noticed...
(Her name has always been a bit of a mystery, hasn't it? As far as I know, the only place it's romanized is in the Saturn Bomberman Fight!! guidebook, where it says "Lewysia" (page 47). This is the same book that calls Pump "Pampu" though so maybe take it with a grain of salt. )

Phone apps that interact with arcade games... What a time to be alive.
Just posting these for the sake of being able to return to them. The beta was recently cracked and is playable on PC. There's also a file for an english patch + unlocker. Simply drop that into the folder for the game and you're good to go. It translates some of the text and fixes the gatcha soft lock while also unlocking stuff.
