Figured I'd make an anime/manga in general topic

What were your first animes? What were the ones that got you into it? What are some of your favs? etc

I've been an anime fan for over 6 years now. I started with the toonami block of 98-99ish which alot of people may have started with toonami. I got into it more then just tv anime within the year. Back then Toonami included Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z and Robotech. Some of which are among my favorites today. My first anime that wasn't shown on tv was sakura wars. I saw it in a videogame magazine and it looked interesting so I went to the mall and bought it. Most of the anime i picked up after that was based on watching previews from Sakura wars and other tapes i obtained.

Regulus 777's favorite anime (no particular order)

Robotech
Sailor Moon
Record of Lodoss War
Gunsmith Cats
Sakura Wars
Nausicaa of the valley of the wind
Transformers

I also occasionally read manga. I started almost 3 years ago. I don't own too much since I rent alot and only try to buy favorites.

Favorite manga

MARS
Fruits Basket
Nausicaa of the valley of the wind

If you want I can post a list of all the anime and manga I own. I'm looking forward to reading all your replies.

I have the Metropolis movie. It was very good. The music was alittle different for anime but it was enjoyable none the less. I also read the Metropolis manga. Did you know Metropolis is actually quite old?

Well, the first animes that i really got in to was sailor moon and not to long after... dragon ball z along with other animes such as some of the gundam seireses(though, dbz and sailor moon were the main two animes that i had watched). And yea, just like reg and many others... i started watching these when they came on toonami, though i had already seen these two animes before on some older channels... cartoonnetwork's toonami is the reason why i like animes today. Years later when adult swim came out, i started growing out of dbz and sailor moon and started getting into most of the animes that have been shown on adult swim.

Like for instance....

(also not in a particular order)
Cowboy Bebop
Trigun
Inuyasha
Big O(which i had originaly seen on toonami)
.hack//sighn(was never shown on adult swim but was on toonami and later moved to some other part of cartoonnetwork)
Kenshin(also was never shown on adult swim)
FLCL
Detective Conan/ Cased Closed( Im not sure why they dont show this anime on adult swim anymore..)
Wolfs Rain(Yet, another anime that adult swim stopped showing...)
R.O.D/ Read or Die
Full Metal Alchemist
ect.....

Once in a blue moon, i look at some big O or cased closed mangas from time to time at a book store... but other than that, im not a big fan of mangas. Im more of a DC/ Marvel kind of guy when it comes to comic books(or graphic novels), and also sonic the hedge hog comics from archie.

Im not even going to start with animes ive taken the time to watch, but for mangas, try to find something on yotsubato. From the author of AD its basically the pointless adventures of some eneregetic little girl accidently causing trouble and saying all kinds of crazy stuff.

I'm going to watch Elfen Lied next. My cousin let me borrow it and he says its really good.

do you buy anime? Like do you own any that you purchased in a store? Or do you just download everything you feel like watching?

I'm guessing your list is anime you've seen and that you don't own all of it through purchases in stores.

This is all the anime I own

Aquarian Age: The Movie
Azumanga Daioh (finished)
Blue Gender (finished)
Chrno Crusade (finished)
Dirty Pair Flash (finished)
Dragon Ball Z (3 tapes from various points in series approx 10 episodes)
Escaflowne: The Movie
.hack/legend of the twilight (finished)
Gunsmith Cats (3 episodes mini series)
Guyver (first two volumes, i beleive thats all that was released here- 12 episodes)
His and Her Circumstances (first volume only so far- 6 episodes)
Legend of Crystania (series)
Metropolis (movie)
Nausicaa of the valley of wind (movie)
Pokemon: The First Movie
Pretear (first volume only so far- 4 episodes)
Queen Emeraldas (first volume VHS, don't know if there are more)
Record of Lodoss War (first series, finished)
Robotech (all three sagas finished)
Sailor Moon (first volume- 4 episodes)
Sailor Moon R:Promise of the Rose (movie)
Sakura Wars (first 2 VHS and first two dvds. All thats out other than TV series and movie i beleive)
Slayers Return: The Motion Picture
Sonic the hedgehog (ADV films movie)
Transformers: The Movie
Ys Legacy (finished)

If I missed something I'll add it later. Again this is only the real copies I own. I'll perhaps make an additional list of all the things I've seen if I can remember them all.
