I was visiting www.vgmusic.com today when i saw this annoucement concerning the a site using vgmusic (and other's sites) MIDIs.
Boycott Ringophone

There are hundreds, if not thousands of websites on the Internet that are hosting video game MIDI files without the sequencers' permission, and often giving them no credit at all. As a sequencer, this is just something I've learned to accept and live with. However, when I stumbled upon a website the other day that's actually selling our hard work for a profit, I was pretty furious. Meet Ringophone, one of the biggest scums of the Internet today. I recognize almost all of the "ringtones" in their polyphonic video game ringtone section from VGMusic.com. They've taken MIDI files directly from this and other websites without any sequencers' permission, given no credit to the sequencers whatsoever, and are selling them for $0.99US each. I can tell you that the sequencers of the files certainly aren't seeing any of that money, considering that one of my sequences is there.
So, what can we do about it? Unfortunately, sequencers who reproduce other people's music as a hobby have no real legal rights over their reproductions. It looks like the only thing we can do is give this website a bad name and try to get people boycotting it. If you feel strongly about this, send Ringophone a letter telling them how you feel (use this address: [You must log in to view emails]). Please don't send anything malicious such as viruses or anything that would be classified as spam. Tell them that what they're doing is wrong and that you don't appreciate it one bit. Post this news on your webpage or blog and spread the word that this website is taking advantage of sequencers everywhere. And whatever you do, don't buy anything from them.

Right now I'm checking to see if any of my MIDI were being sold.
If they are.... a nasty fate awaits them.... I spent hours, no, DAYS working on each of the MIDIs i made... FROM SCRATCH! and now these asses think they can just swipe them and make profits from them. And not a single one of us is getting squat! Forget legal rights, that's enough crime to take action as it is!
I feel sorry for those who are affected...
*Prepares a very very angry email to send*
Please help us (sequencers and vgmusic members alike) out by boycotting Ringophone and sending complaint emails. Thanks! |

bleh.. screw vgmusic.com then, they are a bunch of leechers and hopefully they get sue'ed |
uhh...keep reading dude
And i wouldnt really get in to any of that...you will end op getting in trouble one way or another by the copyrighted owner unless you actually have permision to make and distribute the midis.
If people are that stupid to pay for it with out knowing they can get them for free its there own fault
Now i went to http://ringophone.com/ if that is the site your arguing over they say this on there site Ringtone Copyrights
Ringophone.com supports the music composers and pays copyright fees for all ringtone downloads. Ringophone.com has blanket licenses from the appropriate music publishers and performing rights from ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.)
Ringophone.com makes every possible effort to identify the rights holder for each ringtone. However, if you are aware of any ringtones for which we do not hold the appropriate licenses, please e-mail [You must log in to view emails]. We would be happy to sign a typical licensing agreement and pay the appropriate fees.

They could and might be paying the rightfully copyright owners, not "sequencers" which really have no say in it...but if there not doing as they say you can right fully tell the rightfull copyright owners and they can sue...But that could only lead to more truble and vgmusic might end up getting the wrong end of it.
I have seen and been a member to certain websites and boards that have been shutdown because of copyrighted material some where as little as some pictures(no not porn which i bet someone would have brought up if i dont mention it, dirty minds you have ) |

You could always embed in the link with photo shop |
Well what I mean is since theres alot of frames to it I would have to stick it on every comic panel out of the daily 3 o_o;;
Or just one big one right across it but i don't know how good it would look then. |
