Hello all. Been a hot minute huh? Since the crash and burn of the Youtube channel, I took a nice hiatus from the internet. I feel it's done me a lot of good. I've reflected on a lot of things currently in my life and am trying to do better and be better as a person. I think stepping away from the internet can do that for everyone.
But enough about my blatherings, I stopped by to mention a few Bomberman related things I've been working on.
One thing I discovered is that the Japanese version of Bomberman Kart on PS2 has some different unlockables. There are 4-Koma comics as well as an art contest. Similar to what they did in Bomberman Land 1 on PS1, this game goes harder and has nearly 3800 entries from the art contest! Now that's some work! There are also around 50ish winners that can be unlocked when completing all the cups in the Grand Prix.
It took a lot of dumping and some troubleshooting, but I managed to rip all of the art. You can find it here on the archive or on The Spriter's Resource.
Now back to the 4-Komas. I was reading over the thread by Bomberfan5656 and realized it was worth looking into, now that I better know how to take a dump. Several of the Land Series games and a few other games around that time frame, had 4-Koma comics added to them as bonus unlockables.
I was able to successfully dump Land 2, 3, and Kart. For Land 1 I just had to take screenshots because even though I could dump the images, it was an editing nightmare to even consider trying to correct it all. Good news is, most of the games recycle the same comics so it's easy to view it all. I recommend looking through Land 3 if you had to choose one, as it's the most expansive and seems to cover what the other games had already.
And for those who want a running list, here's a quick breakdown:
- Bomberman Land 1 (screenshots only, dumping was a nightmare)
- Bomberman Land 2
- Bomberman Land 3
- Bomberman Kart
- Bomberman Kart DX (not added)
- Bomberman Battles (not added)
For Battles I was unable to get a save going and gave up due to lack of skill. Kart DX has specific requirements for each comic to be unlocked. Given I can't read Japanese and don't want to do the time sink for it, I passed on that as well. 4ish out of 6 ain't bad!
One of the better things I finally achieved was I finally got my hands on a copy of the Bomberman Hero CD! Yes, that burnt ass looking CD took me a really long time to track down but I finally found it. To be honest, I really thought these CDs were damaged until I realized it was just the cover art. It's still kinda weird to look at it and understand that it's a real thing. It's a pretty unique idea though, I must say.
