Well, they did try something like that with you-know-what for the Xbox. But if they had made them humans back in the day, it probably would be different.
Then again, they kind of needed to reboot the series after the original NES game, because otherwise they wouldn't have had a main character - Bomberman loses his signature ability when he becomes Lode Runner.
By the way, in regards to the text, I find it interesting that, at the beginning of the story text, they reveal that the Bomberman of this game will become Lode Runner at the end of the game, and then at the end of the text they question whether or not Bomberman can actually become human. That's probably why the English manuals cut out the references to Lode Runner in the story text and just left it as a surprise ending. |
