One noticable difference is the existance of the katakana ヴ symbol, which has the sound of 'v'. But is only used in conjunction with a small(pretty sure that it has to be) vowel, in BOTH hiragana and katakana. ヴぁ ヴァ. Katakana is normally used for english style words, ones that were based off of english words for example like sutoroberii(strawberry)- which is ichigo in normal japanese. Katakana can also be used for original words, though you could still find things spelled in hiragana sometimes- this can be for varying reasons. |
