Turns out this was not, in fact, forgotten by the Powers That B(-Daman):

https://bdamannowdog.tumblr.com/post/734176208607215616/bakugaiden-iv-v-available-for-streaming-japan

I feel like the timing of legato's subbing project was like someone waiting uncomfortably long to be absolutely sure it's safe to cross the street, only to take one step onto the asphalt and get completely bodied by a Tesla.

(I do hope the subbing project for V will continue, though, since even with renewed promotion in Japan I highly doubt we'll ever get any official translations/localizations.)

EDIT: Oops, pretend I posted this in Entertainment Talk, I guess...

Huh. Well color me surprised! It's good these shows are being made available, considering how difficult it is to obtain the VHS tapes. I wonder if the quality of the episodes are better than the rips floating around out there? I'll have to see if there's a way to view these.

As for now, the subbing will continue. Unless something magic happens and they appear subbed out of nowhere, we will continue along.

A fellow user has ripped the Bakugaiden episodes from one of those streaming services. Will keep a look out for Bakugaiden V since there does not appear to be a link just yet.

Hello,

It's great to hear that there's renewed attention and availability for Bakugaiden IV-V in Japan. The efforts of fansubbing projects are indeed commendable, and the timing can be quite unpredictable. Hopefully, the subbing project for V continues, providing broader accessibility for fans worldwide. Your analogy adds a humorous touch to the situation.

Best wishes,Interstellar

For anyone still on X/Twitter, there's a comparison of the streaming quality vs. the original VHS quality here: https://twitter.com/kiirobon/status/1743832305787965747

Edit: I meant to post this in the other thread. Oops, oh well!

Hello everyone. Just a small update for today. I'm still working with Yume and as of today, Bakugaiden V has 25 episodes translated. We are halfway through the series! :peace:  Hopefully it can be finished within the year, but the tentative finish time is still 2025 so please continue to be patient.

On another note, both Bakugaiden shows can be found on Amazon Prime. Here are the links, I have no idea why they are so giant:

It's been said before, but one positive to take away from this is that these streaming rips of higher quality can be used as a foundation for better fansubs in the future compared to the VHS rips we have currently of Bakugaiden IV with hard subs.

Kinda like how Bomberman Jetters was subbed using TV broadcasts in 480p and once it was all finished, nice HD Blurays of the show surfaced.
