Y' know... I don't think our board has ever done one of these. I can't remember ever doing one.

Anyway you see this at some other boards. Basically I'm interested in what everyone's favorite games of all time are, so take a few days/week/however long you may like to take to look through you collections or remember all the games you've played and come up with a list of your top 20 all time favorites. In this post I'll rank everyone's favorites together in a list and perhaps we'll find out what that we all share common favorites.

This is how I'll do it. In each person's list, the number 1 slot will be worth 20 points with 1 point less for each following place till the number 20 spot which will be worth 1 point. Every time I see new results I'll update this post with the complete stats.

Think long and hard on it and post your list! Mine should be up within a couple days. I just wanted to get this out there so some of you guys could see it while I'm making my considerations. It's been quite some time since I've really considered what my all time favorites are and it may take me a little while.

There's no restrictions on what games you can put in! It can be any platform, any developer, a remake or whatever. It's its a remake please specify that it is and it will have a separate tally from the original game if someone else puts that in their list.

Also it shouldn't be necessary to mention this, but obviously don't put the same game in multiple spots to give it more points or put less then 20 in your list to help a game win, that's not the point of this. It's just for my personal curiosity, and the curiosity of anyone else that's interested!

The List!
(so far 2 people's lists have been figured in and there is a total of 34 games in the list.)

I'll work on this when I get home from Christmas perhaps, but you're making it really hard on me on the fact that I can't use my usual out of ranking my favorite series's instead of my favorite games to get a few slightly more obscure mentions. Perhaps I'll give an honorable mentions list afterwords.

B-but this was your absolute favorite game ever for like 10-15 years.... DDDDDDDDD:

Still, five games managed to top one of your longtime favorites? I find this a little hard to believe.

Ah yes, Mega Man II.

Well I've decided that as the years go by I was putting too much of a game value into Nostalgia/childhood experience and that always put Megaman II up so high.

This time around I came up with a new rating system for myself to determine what games were my favorites. I made 5 categories and gave each category a maximum weight of points it could earn based on what I felt was most important in a game's value. I rated each category then totalled it up. This is free for discussion and is a matter of opinion for each gamer and everyone has their own way of determining things but this what i used if it interested anyone.

Overall Fun Factor (1-10 points) - How fun the game was/is to play in general and how happy you feel/felt playing it.

Replayability (1-10 points) - How much can you do? How long does the game last? Even after all of that how often do you find yourself putting it in and just playing it again cause it's still fun?

Story/Characters (1-5 points) - I assigned this a lower total since not all games have much of a story or even characters sometimes but story and characters are one of the main reasons i play alot of videogames so i felt it still needed its own amount of weight.

Nostalgic value - (1-5 points) - When I reflect on a title or play it again how many old memories come rushing back? Like playing all those old megaman games at my cousin's house when he used to babysit me or how I'd write about them in my 2nd grade journal everyday. Or how I walked all the way to the other end of town on foot to pick up my copy of Tales of Symphonia. Stuff like that. Those happy fuzzy memories. lol

Music/Voiceovers (1-3 points) - I know this doesnt matter to alot of people but voices and soundtracks are a big facotr for me in videogames! I didnt want to give it too much weight and have a game overpower another by soundtrack alone so I capped it at only 3 points.

That's how I did it. Everyone has their own way of doing things so I just wanted to show you how I did it. No one should have to follow any special method except maybe their own if they come up with one.

You know... your system actually makes a lot of sense.

I pretty much looked at my collection and asked myself "What games did I really really like that I have/played?" So mine's probably somewhat flawed on that account. lol

When I feel like going through it again, maybe I'll try yours out.

But not now, it'd be too troublesome if I went over it again (for both you and me lol).

Oh, and if you were wondering, everything in the parenthesis was the name of the remake of the game, since I saw no real reason to not really make them their own exclusive games for fairly obvious reasons, while the second system listed is the one the remake appeared on. I also did this for the cases of the games I have played both the original and remake (which is why Twin Snakes isn't mentioned in my list) with the only exception being RE4, since their all more or less the same game with the only difference being some extra stuff.

Forgive the double post, but...

I take it no one else on Bomberman Board plays other games? I find this a little hard to believe for some reason. :/

Come on now, haven't any of you been curious as to what you're fellow Bomberman Board-ians play regarding video games?

I play other games besides Bomberman. But, I have looked at this topic a couple of times and I'd like to participate, but I am really terrible at rating things on a scale. I can't even rate Bomberman games in comparison to each other, let alone all the games I've played and enjoyed. :stun:

... don't rush me, I can give you a list on a dime, but it won't be a decently thought out one. I just got home from winter break, so I don't plan on dealing with it, after class starts I'll have plenty of time to waste.

I didn't intend to sound like a jerk in my post if I came across that way. I'm just wondering why I'm the only one who contributed to the topic so far, even though it's been over a week since Reggy started this. :surprise:

Lol, you didn't sound like a jerk. I'm sure Fireball didn't mean it that way.

I could probably compile a list of my 20 favorite games after some thinking, but I wouldn't be able to rank them easily... It is easy for me to distinguish between good and bad games/movies/etc, and I could probably rank bad games, but for some reason I struggle a lot with comparing good things with each other to determine which may be better.

Although, I don't know why nobody else has posted in this yet. Perhaps they are compiling their lists, or are planning to. I don't know.

If you feel you need to take your time in making a list you feel comfortable with and sure of then please take as much time as you like. I know I could argue with myself some more with the list I made and it might change a little bit if I continued to dwell on it but at the time I made it I felt overall those were probably the most likely candidates for my list.

There's no need to rush. I'm just curious to see everyone's favorites. even if it takes you awhile.

You really didn't, I just responded in about the same way I would've to my closest friends. Though I'm a sarcastic jerk a majority of the time... something I only tend to hold back when doing things highly politically. Sadly it's hard to get the tone right where everyone on the internet will know the difference between friendly sarcasm and attack/defensiveness. I'm not of the opinion that I will be using my non-natural internet tone on these boards as a majority of the people here have gotten used to my more natural posting style. I'm not really all that easily offended, and even if I were offending me doesn't matter too much, so I wouldn't worry about me thinking you're a jerk. (as for people thinking I'm a jerk, well they can if they want to, can't really please everyone... so I might infact be a jerk, but at least I'm a friendly jerk)

A problem you share with nearly the entire human race. I'd say don't worry about it generally, top tens are always a tad off as their rating systems differ based on numerous constantly changing factors. You'll see it directly represented on my list too, series games like mario world (which is certainly actually in my top 20) will bow out of the list completely as a sidenote in other mentions in order for me to add more oddball games like the guardian legend. Games that are multiplayer favorites like NES Ice Hockey won't be mentioned due to being sub par single player experiences, and even though I've an arcade machine sitting next to me my arcade list will probably be down to donkeykong, metal slug x (which will be beating out contra on my list) and galaga. In alot of ways my list will likely end up being a short best list of many genres stacked in a completely strange manner. I'm not even going to personally let nostalgia stop me from picking games, yay for breaking the world's list. My plan is to go threw my entire collection and just create a list of games I truely loved, then narrow that down and then take some time deciding some obscure ranking system. Bomberman 3 and Tetris Attack aren't really things you can compair apples to apples.

(there, that also includes a preview of what my list will actually include too)

2. Cyclo (hp-48) http://www.hpcalc.org/details.php?id=4361
3. Phoenix (ti-89) http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/82/8206.html
4. Dr. Mario 64
5. Mario Kart 64
6.Turtles in Time SNES. The best two player cooperative game that I have played to date. Easy, but fun. Is there a better game to chill out with a friend?
7. Descent. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Descent_(video_game)
8. Bomberman Saturn
9. Dunk Hunt (NES)
10. Road Rash (genesis)
11. Donkey Kong (SNES)
12. Super Mario World (SNES)
13. Goldeneye 64
14. Star Fox 64. Not sure if this one deserves to be on the list, but the dialogue was epic and the absurdity of the final boss cemented this game in my mind.

I am sure there are more, but these are the only stand out games that I can think of off the top of my mind.

Strangely, most of my memories are for the NES and N64, rather than the SNES. Yet objectively, nearly ever NES concept was done better on the SNES. The lack of a memory function is a huge falt of the NES. Imagine what memory would have done for NES Ninja Turtles. And no memory sort of makes high scores pointless. Perhaps the SNES games which stood at the time were the 3d games such Mario Kart and Star Fox, and these games in a modern context have been overshadowed by newer, better versions of the games.

Ahhh, new entries! Nice.

I see some good stuff in there.

Turtles in time is a great game Bombtarded. I have TMNT 2: The Hyperstone Heist which is basically a watered down version of it with less levels on Genesis. The SNES version is awesome. Also love Saturn Bomberman.

There's some good stuff on your list too Hammer! I spent many fun hours with Roller Coster Tycoon and Starcraft. One of my fondest memories in RCT was figuring out how to import 2 of my own WAV. songs that will play during my rides.

As a small child I played a lot of Space Invaders on Atari 2600 at my Grandma's house. hehe
