I'm quite certain that hands with bonus knives, and a heightened sense of smell would all be perks for cooking. Plus it fit's well into his other hobby of dicing things, so I think it'd be more odd if he wasn't the chef. He just threatens the camera men, and that's why you don't see mention of food really anywhere in the series.
