Although, now that it has been brought up, I am reminded of something that I noticed some time ago. That is, that it wouldn't make sense for Honey and Pretty Bomber to canonically be the same person, since Honey wants to capture Golem Bomber for a ransom in "Saturn Bomberman Fight!!"

I mentioned in the old Bomberman discussion thread that in Japan people tend to draw Miss Honey and Pretty Bomber very much alike. You see, the reason Pretty Bomber has a human head at all is because, at the time of Super Bomberman 2, she appeared prominently in many commercials, played by actress Haruka Sawaguchi; she also had a single as Pretty Bomber, Mr. B Bee, as well as several promotional videos. Miss Honey was created from this persona, and in the Japanese fandom, they say Pretty Bomber is a brainwashed and remodeled Miss Honey.

As I could not find the commercials pointing to this (though I did find many others), I will not call it a fact.

In any case, by the time of Super Bomberman 3, Miss Honey and Kotetsu (both now recurring characters in the Tengai Makyou and Momotaro Densetsu series) had become popular enough that they were used in the marketing for Bomberman. Haruka Sawaguchi played Miss Honey at first, but the role later switched to Takahashi Chiyomi, for unknown reasons.

So there you have it, the secret behind Miss Honey and Pretty Bomber: public relations! Miss Honey would later become a full-blown mascot, with a website and everything; the change is actresses is likely the reason she looks different in later incarnations, and why she was (probably) separated from Pretty Bomber as a character.



Do note the scarf, which was always worn by Haruka Sawaguchi (and therefore Miss Honey), even as Pretty Bomber.

Here, from the guidebook.

Intriguing. His head is black, his crown emblem thingie looks larger than usual and he has a button on his cloak.

His head was black from Super Bomberman 3 onwards, and his cloak had a button in Super Bomberman 2, though not as prominent as above.

I agree his crown looks bigger.

Really? I always thought his helmet was purple to begin with.

Yes, it was purple in Super Bomberman 2, but in Super Bomberman 3 they all received a redesign. Plasma changed colors entirely, for instance.



But in the lazy sprite he remained with a purple helmet for some reason.

And then Golem Bomber looked like he let himself go.

Brain Bomber's helmet was still purple in both his in-game sprite and both of his intro graphics in SB3. His artwork on the SB3 box even shows him wearing a purple helmet. The only SB3 artwork that depicts him with a grey helmet is the picture inside the manual, on the Dry Star page. Bomberman Story/Tournament decided to go with the color scheme from that one picture, for some reason.

Golem Bomber was always fat. All of his SB2 artwork, as well as his appearances in the Japanese commercials, depicts him as having a round body. No idea why his in-game sprite was so wildly different.

"Lay off the donuts, tubby".

And that is why we see Golem Bomber raging at the beginning of SB2.

He's not raging, he's clearly making a concentrated effort to suck in his gut.

Actually, he had a black helmet in the comics inside the manual as well.



And seeing as Plasma is still yellow in the cover...

Bomberman Tournament actually follows that design pretty accurately... even his little antenna is purple, like in the artwork.



Not below the cape, though, but I think I prefer his arms being white as opposed to bright yellow.

Yeah, I was aware that Bomberman Story retained the new color scheme in all of its artwork. I just had forgotten that the SB3 comic also used the grey helmet.
